Baby Avery: an update

So I just got home from a couple of doctor appointments with my sister. The first appointment was awesome, we met with the doctor who is the head of NICU at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She was the sweetest, down to earth doctor I have ever met. She was also full of hope and positivity about Avery’s chances of survival. She was all for Jennifer supplying him with breast milk as soon as possible after birth which was a concern of ours. We learned, even though we kinda already knew, that breast milk is even better then the medications in all cases of baby’s being in NICU. It fights off infection and even speeds up the healing process in most cases. She explained that there will be a team there, including herself, of four people that will work as soon as he is born to keep him stable. We are praying that Jennifer’s milk comes in as soon as possible after he is born. We are going to try our hardest to prevent formula substitution as much as we can. Avery will be in the hospital anywhere from 2weeks to 1month depending on his healing process.

I know these things are hard to figure out so I decided to add some arrows and stuff

The second doctors appointment was not as positive as the first one. It was a sonogram appointment to check on Avery’s growth since 2 weeks ago. His head is still measuring as a full term baby (11.5 cm) and his body is growing at a normal rate. They still don’t see the cerebellum and the brain stem (this is the part of the brain that communicates for his motor skills, breathing included) but they say there is a chance it might be suppressed by the fluid considering when they monitored his lungs they saw strong breathing motions.

This Doctor also said that he had no hope for Avery. That there would be no chance that he will live because of how much fluid is in his head. But at the same time, this doctor was just a sonogram doctor and works only with babies in the womb. Good thing he wont be around during delivery.  I belive that Avery will live true to his name. In the English origin- Counselor; sage; WISE. That he will confound the wise (doctors) and that his little body would have wisdom and revelation of the healing power of JESUS!

  1. We are praying in agreement with you that Avery will grow to be a mighty man of God, he will confound the “wise” doctor and be a living testimony of the Glory of God! We prayed for him the past 2 weeks in the Children’s Prayer Watch at OHOP. We love him already as well as you guys, your sister and her family.

  2. When Asher was in the hospital and we were reading up about the many challenges we could be looking at with his being a 22q11.2 deletion baby…it was very depressing. Even reading the parent’s forums was depressing and I had to turn them off. I felt that we were suppose to take one day at a time and just deal with Asher as he is..not with what he isn’t….or what those other kids were. I also had a very powerful impression from the Lord about Asher having what he needed to be perfectly well and astounding the doctors. I saw in my mind’s eye….a movie of sorts….almost like looking through a microscope and seeing infinitely smaller and smaller things in Asher’s body, eventually coming down to the very chromosome where he was missing information. There, in the space that should have held the information for his body…. was a little Jesus. He was standing with his arms outstretched and instantly I knew that Asher was going to be more than OK. He had the SOURCE of life …filling in his missing information. I’ve never forgot that picture of encouragement from the Lord and I truly believe God is doing creative miracles still with my little boy who is now 2 yrs old and doing GREAT! Doctor’s are still amazed when they find out he isn’t on any medications. I just wanted to encourage your family and give you Hope for Avery’s healing. Stand in Faith and just Believe…….believe in a God who loves that little boy more than we ever could. Believe that He WANTS to heal him….to Restore him…to make a testimony that gives others faith to go on. Our prayers are with you 😉
